How to Prevent Prostate Cancer: Dr. Oz Advices
Just like other diseases, prostate cancer is life-threatening. The cancer usually develops among men ages 50 and above. In a study by the American Cancer Society, the benefits of undergoing cancer treatment were not yet proven. Turns out, many men having cancer signs and symptoms did not undergo any therapy. Even some of them die due to other causes.
A man’s risk of getting cancer can be determined regardless of his age, race or family history. On the other hand, this deadly illness can be connected to some things you can change. Surgeon and TV personality Dr. Oz shares his few bits of advice on preventing prostate cancer and other illnesses among men.
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Apparently, having a diet high on fresh fruits and veggies lowers cancer risks. Go for the ones that are rich in folate, a vitamin B found in many leafy green foods like beans, asparagus and spinach. According to Oz, folic acid supplements increase cancer risks so including them in your diet is a big no!
- Choose healthy snacks and control what you’re eating. Get rid of high-processed or sugary foods. Skip the artificially-flavored chips, cola and candies. Eat lots of wheat-enriched snacks (cereals, wheat bread, oatmeal etc.). Oz recommended in his blog these specific foods that are deemed cancer-free: green tea, salmon, soya milk & other related products, butter and cheese.
- Drink beer or any alcohol moderately. Doctor Oz advices that two glasses is enough, since studies show that too much alcohol intake increases risks of cancer.
- A 30-minute (or more) aerobic exercise ensures the lessening of cancer risks.
- Get check-ups. Although it may not guarantee the possible reduction of cancer risks, having an annual checkup serves as your motivation in saving yourself from cancer and other deadly illnesses.
